ILLUSTRATION
OBJECTIVE: Design a die line for a deck of cards package and illustrations for one suit of playing cards from Ace to King, plus a Joker card.
The Pittsburgh Playing Cards celebrate the city’s bold character and industrial legacy through a modern, minimalist design. Inspired by the iconic outline of Fort Pitt, each card features the recognizable fort shape rendered in striking yellow against a deep black background—an homage to Pittsburgh’s signature black and gold color palette. The geometric form of Fort Pitt becomes a recurring visual motif, symbolizing the city’s strength, heritage, and unity.
The card box design mirrors the same aesthetic: clean lines, confident typography, and a balanced layout that emphasizes the “PITTSBURGH” identity. The result is a cohesive and visually powerful deck that feels both contemporary and timeless.
Each suit is unified under the Fort Pitt symbol, replacing traditional suits with a single, strong emblem that reinforces the local theme. From numbered cards to face cards and the Joker, every element is crafted to reflect Pittsburgh pride while maintaining playability and clarity.
This deck is designed for locals, collectors, and visitors who appreciate thoughtful design rooted in place. The Pittsburgh Playing cards are more than a set of playing cards—it’s a tribute to Pittsburgh’s enduring spirit and unmistakable identity.
